Total Thursdays: Pro Football Week 9 Odds, Trends for Totals

Bet NFL with William Hill, America’s #1 sportsbook.

After unders reigned supreme in Week 6 and 7, overs returned with a vengeance, going 9-5 in Week 8. Overs are now 62-54-3 (53.4%) on the season.

William Hill has the totals posted for 13 NFL Week 9 games, with only Lions vs. Vikings off the board. Six totals have shifted by over a point, with four of them rising thanks to action on the over.

“The professionals were hitting a few of the overs when these lines were first out, they were betting mostly unders early on the last several weeks,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “The four big moves on Monday were all on the over. It just all depends on the matchup, if you get two high-scoring teams against each other, it’s tough to keep that game under.”

The biggest total shift of any Week 9 game is a battle between division leaders in Buffalo. After opening at 51, Seahawks vs. Bills now sits at 55. That matchup’s over has reeled in 97% of the total dollars wagered as well as 73% of the total number of tickets. No other Week 9 game’s total has been more lopsided in terms of total dollars wagered than this one.

There is another Week 9 over that is capturing 90% of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered. Interestingly enough, it’s also the tied for the lowest total on the board as of now.

Steelers vs. Cowboys resides at 42, which matches the total for Patriots vs. Jets on Monday night. Yet, the over for Steelers vs. Cowboys has generated 91% of the total number of tickets (which leads all overs) and 96% of the total dollars wagered (second behind Seahawks vs. Bills).

While there isn’t an under receiving the majority of the total number of tickets thus far, William Hill bettors are backing three of them based on total dollars wagered.

The under that leads in that category is Saints vs. Buccaneers, as that under has drawn 89% of the total dollars wagered. After that total opened at 55, it has dropped all the way down to its current number of 51.5. That 3.5-point swing is the second-biggest one in Week 9, only behind Seahawks vs. Bills.

Not surprisingly, Seahawks vs. Bills and Saints vs. Buccaneers have attracted the largest Week 9 total bets thus far at William Hill. A $5,500 wager has come in on Seahawks vs. Bills over 54.5, Seahawks vs. Bills over 55 and Saints vs. Buccaneers under 52.
