In the 21 Super Bowls from 2000 on, a quarterback has been awarded MVP 13 times. Four of those belong to Tom Brady, while Patrick Mahomes took home the hardware in last year’s Big Game.
Those two star signal-callers square off on Sunday for the Lombardi Trophy, and they are atop the board for William Hill’s Super Bowl 55 MVP odds. But are William Hill bettors rolling with a non-quarterback long shot to grab the accolade instead?
Mahomes opened as the Super Bowl MVP favorite at William Hill for the second year in a row. He was first listed at -150 against the 49ers, and he has stayed put at -120 this time around against the Buccaneers. Brady has the second-lowest odds at +180, and that number hasn’t budged either since it was released.
Both Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce originally were at +900, and each has seen his odds shift to +800. Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette are tied for the fifth-lowest odds at 25/1 apiece after opening at 30/1.
Other notable MVP movers include the field (60/1 to 30/1), Mecole Hardman (75/1 to 60/1), Shaquil Barrett (75/1 to 60/1), Jason Pierre-Paul (75/1 to 60/1), Sammy Watkins (200/1 to 100/1) and Scotty Miller (400/1 to 200/1).
For most popular Super Bowl 55 MVP wagers, each of the quarterbacks leads the way in a category. Brady ranks first in total number of tickets at 10%, with Hill close behind at 9%. Kelce (7%), Barrett (6%) and Mahomes (6%) round out the top five in that department.
On the other hand, Mahomes and Hill have each racked up 13% of the total dollars wagered, followed by Brady at 11%. Watkins has secured 7% of the total dollars wagered, with Fournette next at 6%.
Three $1,000 wagers have been placed at William Hill for Super Bowl 55 MVP—one on Mahomes -180 for a $1,833.35 total payout, one on the field (any other) at 60/1 for a total potential payout of $61,000 and the other on Watkins 200/1 for a total potential payout of $201,000.
