Monday Night Pro Football Preview: LAC vs. NO

It’s a fascinating battle under center in the Big Easy tonight, as the NFL’s youngest starting quarterback takes on the second-oldest signal-caller.

The Chargers (1-3) and first-round rookie Justin Herbert will take on the Saints (2-2) and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees at 8:15 p.m. ET/5:15 p.m. PT on ESPN.

New Orleans opened as a 7.5-point home favorite at William Hill and reached as high as -8. Now, however, the Saints are listed at -7 (-110) with their moneyline price sitting at -330.

“Michael Thomas was expected to come back and then he got suspended, so that had a lot to do with the recent line shift,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “Thomas is worth at least half a point, he was the best receiver in football last year. Brees leans on him too.”

Among all spread bets for tonight’s clash, the Saints have reeled in 61% of the total number of tickets and 54% of the total dollars wagered. Additionally, New Orleans has received 69% of the total number of tickets and 75% of the total dollars wagered for all moneyline bets vs. Los Angeles.

The biggest wager taken on this contest thus far, though, is on the underdog. A William Hill Nevada bettor put down $25,000 on Chargers +7.5 (-125) for a total potential payout of $45,000.

Monday night’s total has had some interesting movement as well.

“We opened the total for this one at 52 and it’s dropped a couple points since,” said Bogdanovich. “But we’ll still need the under for sure tonight, that’s typically how it goes with a standalone NFL game.”

The total has come all the way down to its current number of 49.5. Yet, the majority of William Hill bettors are still expecting offensive fireworks at the Superdome. The over has attracted 84% of the total number of tickets and 86% of the total dollars wagered.
