Pro Football Week 4: Odds, Trends, Notable Bets

It’s a big week for big favorites, as six different teams are currently favored by at least a touchdown at William Hill in Week 4’s slate. Last week, there were just three such cases where a line closed at seven or higher. With more big spreads on the board, there are a lot more teams drawing strong action from bettors.

Four teams have brought in at least 80% of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered among all spread bets in their matchups: the Ravens, Rams, Seahawks and Packers.

Baltimore and Los Angeles are the two biggest favorites this week, as the Ravens are -14 at Washington while the Rams are -13 hosting the Giants. Among all Week 5 spread bets at William Hill, the Rams lead all teams with 96% of the total dollars wagered against the Giants and the Ravens rank third in that department at 91%.

Both Baltimore and Los Angeles have also captured 88% of the total number of tickets, only trailing Seattle’s 89% mark. The undefeated Seahawks are 6.5-point road favorites for Sunday’s showdown with the Dolphins.

On Monday night, the also-undefeated Packers are 7-point chalk as they square off against the Falcons at Lambeau. Green Bay has generated 86% of the total number of tickets and 94% of the total dollars wagered. That is highlighted by one Iowa bettor placing $36,000 on Packers -6.5 (-125) for a total potential payout of $64,800, the largest NFL Week 4 wager thus far at William Hill.

Another Sunday game that has featured some interesting action has been Saints vs. Lions. New Orleans opened as a 5.5-point road favorite before quickly dropping to -4. Then today, that spread fell another half point to Saints -3.5. That made it the second-biggest line move of any Week 4 game thus far, with only the Jets going from +3 to -1 against the Broncos on Thursday night being the bigger swing.

While the Saints have received 83% of the total number of tickets among all spread bets in that game, William Hill bettors are much more divided regarding total dollars wagered, where New Orleans holds a slight 51% edge. One Nevada bettor believes in the home underdog quite a bit, as $20,000 was placed on Lions +4 (-110) for a total potential payout of $38,181.80.

Another NFC North team, though, holds the distinction as the only underdog to reel in the majority of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered. Despite a 3-0 start, the Bears are 2.5-point home underdogs to the Colts. Yet, many William Hill bettors think Chicago can cover the tight line, as the Bears have gotten 54% of the total number of tickets and 61% of the total dollars wagered.
