Pro Football Week 16: Early Odds Report

Bet NFL with William Hill, America’s #1 sportsbook.

It’s the penultimate week of the NFL regular season following a wild Week 15. Two double-digit underdogs—Jets (+17) at Rams and Steelers at Bengals (+14.5)—pulled off the outright upset. In Week 16, there’s only one double-digit spread, while seven games are currently lined up at a field goal or less.

Additionally, some of the biggest Week 16 games have already had the biggest line moves thus far at William Hill.

Of the five NFL Week 16 spreads that have shifted by at least 1.5 points from the opening number, four of them are battles between two teams very much alive in the playoff hunt.

Two spreads have moved by four points, and the favorite has flipped as a result. The Eagles went from 2-point underdogs to 2-point road favorites against the Cowboys in an NFC East showdown. After the stunning loss to the Bengals on Monday night, the Steelers went from 2.5-point favorites to 1.5-point home underdogs to the Colts.

“The professionals think the Colts should be a road favorite here, so that’s really all that matters,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “The Steelers were -2.5 before they lost to the Bengals. They looked so pitiful for the third straight game, and now the Colts are favored. It’s too early to say which team we’re going to need here, but I would imagine that the public will be on the Colts as well.”

Three other contests have each had spreads swing by 1.5 points: Rams (+3 to +1.5) at Seahawks, 49ers at Cardinals (-3.5 to -5) and Sunday night’s affair of Titans (+4.5 to +3) at Packers. In fact, Titans at Packers also has the highest total of any NFL Week 16 game at William Hill, as it currently stands at 56.

“Any game that the Titans play is a high-scoring affair, they’re unstoppable on offense and they have no defense,” Bogdanovich said. “As far as them being live dogs, it makes sense. Any time you’re getting a good team at over a field goal, you’re going to get some interest with some sharp money. I prefer Green Bay in the cold weather here, but we’ll see what gives.”

The biggest NFL Week 16 wager at William Hill so far, though, has come in on the biggest favorite on the board. A Nevada bettor placed $21,454.55 on Chiefs -11 (-110) hosting the Falcons for a total potential payout of $40,958.70.
