Pro Baseball Tuesday Preview: Odds, Trends for Top Matchups

Bet baseball with William Hill, America’s #1 sportsbook.

All 30 MLB teams are on the field tonight, and there are plenty of intriguing matchups on this slate. Two first-place teams square off in the Big Apple, while the squad with the best record in baseball is currently an underdog.

The 14-9 and AL East-leading Red Sox head to Citi Field to play the 9-8 and NL East-leading Mets. After opening at -140, the Mets are -145 favorites at home. With Boston’s Garrett Richards and New York’s Drew Peterson slated as the starting pitchers, this game features a total of 8.5.

The majority of William Hill bettors are rolling with the underdog here. The Red Sox have captured 70% of the total number of tickets and 72% of the total dollars wagered among all moneyline bets against the Mets. The total has had even more lopsided betting, as the over has seized 85% of the total number of tickets and 92% of the total dollars wagered.

But those two teams atop their respective divisions are still behind the surprising Royals in terms of overall record. Kansas City has won its past five contests, and have started off this campaign 14-7. Yet the Royals are priced at +103 against the Pirates (-113), even though Pittsburgh possesses William Hill’s second-highest World Series odds at 1500/1.

The Royals are another public road underdog in today’s action, with Kansas City collecting 67% of the total number of tickets and 62% of the total dollars wagered.

One noticeable odds shift has taken place in a showdown with one of the game’s best pitchers on the mound. The Nationals opened at -140 against the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida, with Max Scherzer getting the nod for Washington against Toronto’s Trent Thornton. Now the Nationals are down to -115 and the Blue Jays are +105 to pick up the victory.

William Hill bettors are split on who will take this one. The Nationals have the edge in total number of tickets at 54%, whereas the Blue Jays have the advantage in total dollars wagered at 58%. The most popular wager on this clash in terms of total dollars wagered, though, has been the under. The under has racked up 97% of the total dollars wagered along with 90% of the total number of tickets.

At -245 hosting the Reds (+215 ML), the Dodgers are tied for the heaviest favorites on the board tonight with the White Sox (home vs. the Tigers). Cincinnati outfielder Jesse Winker’s two-run homer in the 10th inning last night propelled the Reds to a 5-3 victory last night in Los Angeles. The Dodgers, who have lost four of their past five, are sending out Walker Buehler to snap their recent funk.

Many William Hill bettors are backing the defending World Series champions to bounce back here. The Dodgers have received 87% of the total number of tickets and 88% of the total dollars wagered among all moneyline bets against the Reds.
