Pro Baseball Roundup: Tonight’s Key Games, Recent Futures Shifts

We’re midway through August in this unique MLB season, and a few teams have established themselves as the frontrunners to win the 2020 Fall Classic.

In the American League, the Yankees, Twins and Athletics are the current division leaders, with Oakland currently sporting the best record in baseball at 16-6.

Over in the National League, the surprising Marlins, Cubs and Dodgers are atop the three divisions.

Since our MLB World Series futures update on August 7, the Yankees, Dodgers and Twins have stayed put at their respective prices of +300, +325 and +900. A few teams have seen their odds noticeably improve since then, though, including the Athletics (15/1 to 11/1), Rays (25/1 to 18/1) and Rockies (30/1 to 22/1).

Moving onto today’s slate, William Hill currently has odds up for 12 games, including a couple division leaders facing their biggest rivals.

The Cubs will play a doubleheader against the Cardinals today, meaning two 7-inning contests for the NL Central foes. In the first game at 5:15 p.m. ET/2:15 p.m. PT, the Cubs are -170 on the moneyline and the Cardinals are at +155. Kyle Hendricks will start on the bump for Chicago, while the Cardinals are sending out lefty Kwang-hyun Kim.

At 7:05 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, the Yankees will try to complete a four-game sweep over the last-place Red Sox. New York is currently a -156 favorite, with the total residing at 10, which is tied for the largest on the board. A pair of lefties will be dueling at Yankee Stadium, as it’s Jordan Montgomery for New York and Martin Perez for Boston.

One New Jersey William Hill bettor is very confident that the Yankees will prevail once again, placing $6,000 on New York -153 for a total potential payout of $9,924.

The Marlins host the Mets tonight as well. Despite its first-place standing, Miami is a +140 home underdog to its NL East adversary, with the Mets listed at -150.

Elsewhere in the NL East, another William Hill New Jersey bettor put $7,000 on the Nationals at +143 against the Braves for a total potential payout of $17,010. Washington is now at +145, with Atlanta favored at -155.
