Pro Baseball Friday Preview: Odds, Trends for Top Games

As baseball gets back into the swing of things, today’s 9-game slate features several interesting matchups on the diamond.

In the first contest of the day at 3:13 p.m. ET/12:13 p.m. PT, two AL East rivals square off. The Yankees take on the Rays down in Florida, as veteran arms Corey Kluber and Rich Hill make their second starts for their new teams.

New York is a -134 moneyline favorite at William Hill over Tampa Bay (+124 ML), while the total is currently set at 8.5. The Yankees had opened at -127 and the Rays’ moneyline odds have slightly risen from +117.

For moneyline wagering in this battle, the Yankees have drawn 79% of the total number of tickets and 85% of the total dollars wagered. The over leads the way with 61% of the total number of tickets and 59% of the total dollars wagered as well.

The two most recent World Series winners clash at 4:13 p.m. ET/1:13 p.m. PT in Los Angeles. The defending champion Dodgers are the biggest favorites in Friday’s action at William Hill, as they’re -280 against the Nationals (+240 ML). With Walker Buehler and Joe Ross dueling on the mound, the total is at 8.5.

The majority of William Hill bettors are backing the heavy chalk here, as the Dodgers have generated 89% of the total number of tickets and 90% of the total dollars wagered among all moneyline bets vs. the Nationals. The over has also been a popular wager with 73% of the total number of tickets and 91% of the total dollars wagered.

One William Hill Nevada bettor placed a $7,500 run line wager on Dodgers -1.5 (-150) for a total potential payout of $12,500.

The team with the best record in MLB takes on the ballclub with the worst one at 8:13 p.m. ET/5:13 p.m. PT. The Astros have raced out to a 6-1 start, whereas the Athletics have struggled out of the gates with a 1-7 record.

Houston is a -170 home favorite after first being listed at -164 and Oakland priced at +155 to pick up its second victory of the season. The total sits at 8.5 with starting pitchers Lance McCullers and Sean Manaea getting the nod tonight for their respective teams.

While the Astros have gotten 89% of the total number of tickets for moneyline bets against the Athletics, Houston has only a slight edge in total dollars wagered at 59%. Wiliam Hill bettors think 8.5 is too many runs here, with the under collecting 60% of the total number of tickets and 87% of the total dollars wagered.

Two moneyline prices that have shifted noticeably in favor of two favorites: Reds (-122 to -143) at Diamondbacks and Rockies at Giants (-140 to -155). Meanwhile, two totals have swung by a full run from their original number: Phillies at Braves (8.5 to 7.5) and Tigers at Indians (8.5 to 9.5).
