NHL Stanley Cup Futures Odds, Trends: Which Contenders Are Bettors Backing?

The NHL announced earlier this week its plan to go straight into a new playoff format once its season returns, and William Hill put back up its 2019-20 Stanley Cup futures.

The Bruins and Golden Knights are currently co-favorites at 11/2 odds each, but which team has generated more interest from William Hill bettors?

The Golden Knights have captured 11% of the total number of tickets, which leads all teams. Vegas has also received 10% of the total dollars wagered, which ranks second to its 2018 Stanley Cup Final foe.

The Capitals have gotten an NHL-leading 14% of the total dollars wagered, and is one of four teams to attract 7% of the total number of tickets along with the Bruins, Lightning and Avalanche.

A New Jersey bettor placed a $20,000 wager on the Capitals at 9/1 to win the 2019-20 Stanley Cup, which is this season’s largest NHL futures bet taken at William Hill. If Washington were to win its second championship in three years, that bettor would collect a total payout of $20,000.

The Capitals’ current Stanley Cup odds are 17/2, tied for the fifth-lowest on the board with the defending champion Blues.

In terms of longshots, a Nevada bettor put down $600 on the Blackhawks 150/1 to win the Cup, which could potentially collect a total of $90,600. Chicago, currently priced at 75/1, is the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference and is slated to face the No. 5-seeded Oilers in the best-of-five qualifying round.

Some notable futures taken on teams that play close to the New Jersey area include a $1,500 wager on Flyers 30/1 for a potential total payout of $46,500 and a $600 bet on Rangers 50/1 for a potential total payout of $30,600.
