Indianapolis 500 Trends: Bettors Rolling With the Favorite

The Greatest Spectacle in Racing is this weekend, as 33 drivers will be competing in the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500, including eight former winners.

William Hill has futures odds posted for every driver, with Scott Dixon serving as the 4/1 favorite. Dixon was listed as high as 10/1 before settling into his current position atop the board.

Alexander Rossi is next at 8/1, followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay and Marco Andretti at 9/1 apiece. Simon Pagenaud, last year’s winner, shares 10/1 odds with Will Power.

Dixon also leads the field in both total number of tickets (11%) and total dollars wagered (19%) among all futures bets on the 2020 Indy 500.

That includes one Nevada bettor placed $1,500 on Dixon at 10/1 for a total potential payout of $16,500, which is tied for the largest wager taken thus far at William Hill. Another Nevada bettor put $1,500 on Rossi at 9/1 for a total potential payout of $15,000.

Rossi is next in total dollars wagered at 15%, while Andretti ranks second in total number of tickets at 9%. Andretti also saw his price change dramatically, going from as high as 50/1 to his current standing of 9/1. Other drivers who have had major odds shifts include Rinus VeeKay and Conor Daly.

VeeKay opened at 100/1 and is down to 14/1, with a Nevada bettor laying $500 on him at 75/1 for a total potential payout of $38,000. Daly at one point was 125/1, where a William Hill Nevada bettor put $200 on him for a potential total payout of $25,200. Daly now resides at 35/1.

William Hill also has 10 head-to-head matchups available for the big race, including Dixon (-165) vs. Andretti (+145) and Rossi (-105) vs. Hunter-Reay (-115).
