NBA Finals Preview: Odds, Trends for Bucks-Suns Game 4

Bet NBA with William Hill, America’s #1 sportsbook.

After a resounding Game 3 victory, the Bucks will look to even up the NBA Finals in front of their home fans tonight. But do William Hill bettors think that the favorite will cover for the fourth straight game this series?

The Suns are still up 2-1 in the series, however a critical Game 4 looms in Milwaukee at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on ABC.

Phoenix won and covered in Games 1 (closed at -5) and 2 (closed at -4.5) at home before Milwaukee bounced back with a 120-100 triumph in Game 3 as a 4.5-point favorite.

The Bucks (-190 on the moneyline) are now 4.5-point chalk for tonight over the Suns (+170 ML) after opening at -3.5. The moneylines have shifted from Bucks -175 to -190 and Suns +155 to +170.

“I think it’ll be a big handle, this is the only major sport on tonight,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “I hope it’ll be our biggest handle of the Finals so far, but the determining factor will be how many big bets we get. The handle will still be strong regardless, though. It’s very possible this will be the highest-bet game in terms of tickets too.”

The majority of William Hill bettors are backing the Bucks on the spread, with the home team grabbing 63% of the total number of tickets and 65% of the total dollars wagered. The underdog, however, has been the more popular moneyline bet, as the Suns have racked up 67% of the total number of tickets and 69% of the total dollars wagered.

The two biggest bets taken thus far at William Hill are both on Phoenix too. A Washington, D.C. bettor laid $100,000 on Suns ML +160 for a total potential payout of $260,000, while a Nevada bettor put $30,000 on Suns +4 (-110) for a total potential payout of $57,272.70.

Yet, the most lopsided wagering as of now for Game 4 has actually been on the total.

“The total is a bigger decision for us right now than the spread,” Bogdanovich said. “That is probably going to change by the time this game tips off, but the over is getting pounded pretty good. These two teams both like to get up and down the floor, and I guess they think that pace will lead to a lot of points. We opened 220, then all the money came in on over 220.5, and now we’re at 221.”

The over has brought in 72% of the total number of tickets and 90% of the total dollars wagered. That is highlighted by one Nevada bettor placing $22,000 on over 220.5 for a total potential payout of $42,000, and another Nevada bettor staking $20,000 on over 220.5 for a total potential payout of $38,181.80.
